The Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart release date is set for June 11, 2021.
Creative director Marcus Smith wrote on the PlayStation Blog: "If you’ve never played a Ratchet & Clank game before, this is an excellent one to start with as the adventure is a stand-alone storyline, but longtime fans of the series will find deeper layers of connection to previous games."
"All of us at Insomniac Games say thank you for your support of Ratchet & Clank across the last 19 years and four generations of PlayStation consoles," Smith wrote. "It’s been an incredible journey so far and we’re excited to share the next chapter with you soon."
Insomniac had said during Gamescom last summer that Rift Apart would debut in the PS5’s “launch window.” Seven months is a rather expansive window — the PS5 arrived in mid-November — but it’s possible that Sony wants to hold off on releasing one of its highest-profile PS5 exclusives until the console is more readily available for customers to buy.
At least, that is the summary of the tweet that has served as the source for the new information by Insomniac. Faced with this discomfort on the part of the community fond of the saga, the study wanted to reassure the masses with the following message: »We know that you are eager for more news and there are plans right now for it. With a release date on the calendar, now we just need to know more about the new silver Lombax girl seen in the trailers for Rift Apart. Smith teased a bit more about her identity today: "Yes, we know you are asking for the new Lombax’s name. And it’s not fair that we put her in the art and aren’t telling you yet. Hang in there, you’ll be feeling rosy soon." Call me crazy, but I reckon her name might be Rosy. It mirrors Ratchet's name nicely, anyway, but it could also just be an odd choice of words on Smith's part. We'll know soon enough.
The upcoming third-person shooter platform adventure will feature enhanced lighting, ray tracing and a targeted 60fps performance mode, as our galactic duo planet-hop to defeat the evil Dr. Nefarious. In addition, the PS5 exclusive utilizes the console's super-fast SSD to move the player seamlessly between these worlds.
A new female Lombax will also be playable, alongside a huge arsenal of weapons, including the Burst Pistol, Topiary Sprinkler and the Shatterbomb. Most importantly, the Rift Tether can pull Ratchet and Clank through anomalies to move around the world.
As for this new lombax’s name, Insomniac still won’t tell players. But it did end the blog post with what seems like a clue: “hang in there, you’ll be feeling rosy soon.” This could suggest that her name is Rose, Rosie, or something similar. Either way, fans will be able to start calling her by her real name soon, instead of just relying on “female lombax.”
