Minecraft returns to Chromebooks
Minecraft Coins A couple of months back the Android version of Mojang’s wildly popular Minecraft blocked from being used on Chromebooks. At that time it wasn’t clear as to why the sandbox video game was no longer compatible with Chrome OS. However the reason became very clear with Microsoft’s recent announcement of Minecraft: Education Edition. This version available only to eligible EDU users can be installed on Chromebooks via the Google Play Store but you’re school has to have a license and you must have an Office 365 Education account to play the full version.
The company said Minecraft was now available in the Google Play Store as an Android app for Chromebook. There's a catch: Only users with an Office 365 Education account can participate at this point. Most educators and students running Chromebooks are also running the competitor to Office 365: G Suite for Education. The beta won't run on Android phones at this time.
It is a strange move to be sure but if this new Nether update is taxing on most systems perhaps Mojang decided to narrow the scope of the app to start with and will begin opening the doors up a bit as time goes on. After all there’s no reason the 8th-gen Y-series Core i5 in my Pixelbook can run this game and the 10th-gen U-series Core i5 in the Acer Spin 713 can’t. Functionally there should be little issue but perhaps the developers thought it best to start small test Buy Minecraft Coins and release compatibility on a few Chromebooks at a time.
Well I have some good news for some of you. Microsoft has re-released Minecraft to the Play Store but there are some caveats. First of all this is an early access program and it is not the same version of Minecraft you’ll find on your mobile device. If you opt to join this Beta you will be required to delete your other Minecraft version after migrating your “worlds” to the Early Access build. No bid deal. Right? Not really but before you go signing up there’s another catch. You can download and install this new version of Minecraft right now but you won’t be able to play it unless you have an eligible Microsoft Office 365 Education account. These are accounts that are given to students through their educational institution much like GSuite accounts from Google. See what Microsoft did there?
